Shelter launches new Angel of the North campaign

27 February 2024

Our chosen charity for this year, Shelter, launch their new campaign last week aimed at combatting a housing 'emergency' in the North East by displaying messages on the iconic Angel of the North.  The launch was covered by The Chronicle, ITV and other media outlets, and you can read the full details HERE

Shelter exists to defend the right to a safe home and fight the devastating impact the housing emergency has on people and society. They help people who are facing homelessness and don’t have access to a safe and secure home.

Nationally, they provide an emergency helpline that’s open 365 days a year to support the public with queries ranging from applying as homeless, problems in social housing and issues with private landlords. They also provide the same support through our webchat service and have online advice pages that received over 6.5 million views last year.

Shelter provide vital face-to-face support from their Community Hubs in Newcastle. The community services are designed to advise, guide and support people with all types of housing queries. They work together with the local community to ensure that the services they offer reflect local needs across the North East. Their advice and support services offer one-to-one, personalised help with housing issues and homelessness. Their solicitors provide free legal advice and attend court to help people who’ve lost their home or are facing eviction.
