£14,000 settlement secured for our client

Our client was asked by his employer to help on a different section of his workplace, which he had not received any formal training for.  The task involved operating a cutting machine for steel bars, and as instructed, stacking the bars on top of each other.

A pile of the cut steel bars, weighing approximately 300kg, fell and landed onto our client’s right foot causing soft tissue injuries and bruising.  Our client had to wear an air boot and was unable to work for several weeks.  He did not recover from his injuries for some 18 months from the accident.

We alleged that the employer was in breach of the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992. The court proceedings were issued, and the claim was eventually settled at just under £14,000.00.
