Tragic preventable suicide case

The case:

Our client had been battling with depression over a 5-year period following redundancy.

He visited his GP and was prescribed anti-depressants which had minimal effect, and so his wife made the decision to seek specialist hospital treatment in another country. Having sought alternative employment and feeling that his depression was improving, he returned to the UK.

Following an incident that occurred with a colleague at work, our client suffered from a return of his depression and was prescribed further anti-depressants by his GP.

Again, he felt that the medication wasn’t working, and he progressively got worse, to the point where his wife took him to his local hospital. The hospital referred our client back to his GP for immediate treatment which he did not receive.

A few days later, our client attempted to take his own life and was admitted to hospital by ambulance. During his stay, he was left unsupervised for a period of time, during which he committed suicide.

How we helped:

As part of the settlement we negotiated, losses were recovered including the cost of funeral expenses and financial dependencies and our client’s wife received compensation totalling £65,000.

Our client commented “In 2010, a great tragedy befell me. My beloved husband fell ill with dementia. The hospital staff ignored him, not providing him with care, as a result of which my husband committed suicide. The hospital did not even apologize.

Then I contacted the law firm True Solicitors LLP. I was terrified, but the ladies working there explained all the complexities to me and made me decide to seek compensation for my husband’s death.

My case was difficult and required a great deal of knowledge of the law. I was surrounded by very good care from the law firm, communication took place mainly by phone and instant messengers. I did not have to go anywhere, they met in person. The law firm helped me and lifted my spirits all the time.

Today, after winning the case, I know that I did the right thing by calling and asking for help. And although my husband will not return anything to me, I know that the guilty ones have been punished and will apply themselves to the work they do. It is good that there are law firms such as True Solicitors LLP that defend us ordinary simple people.

I would like to thank all the employees, wish them luck and recommend True Solicitors LLP to anyone who finds themselves in misfortune”.
