The case:
Our client, a mother of two, with a history of pre-term deliveries in both pregnancies, was 22 weeks pregnant with her third child when she attended the hospital maternity ward with abdominal pain and contractions. She was examined and bulging membranes were noted.
She was advised that the chances of survival for her baby were poor and there was nothing they could do. She sadly went on to deliver her baby prematurely at 22 weeks with no signs of life.
Following the miscarriage, a histopathology report identified blood flow abnormalities to the placenta and the cause of death was recorded as extreme prematurity.
How we helped:
Understandably, our client found the loss extremely difficult and suffered significant psychiatric injuries for which she required extensive CBT treatment.
She recovered £60,000 in compensation after the hospital trust accepted liability in full for failing to manage our client’s pregnancy appropriately given her medical history, and had they done so, her baby would have survived.
Our client commented “Thank you for your help, I am very satisfied with the help I received. I recommend your services to everyone.”
